Players take on the role of various members of the military, including Delta Force operatives and the British SAS, to defend against the Russian invasion. The game features a single-player campaign, as well as multiplayer modes and survival mode.

MW3 was met with generally positive reviews, praised for its multiplayer modes and cinematic campaign. It was a commercial success, earning $1 billion within 16 days of its release. The game is also remembered for its controversial scene depicting a mass shooting in an airport, causing some countries to ban or censor the game.
